About Archivi.ng

Archivi.ng is a non-profit making Nigerian history accessible by digitising old documents – currently newspapers and magazines – while facilitating access to the information for everyone.

We’re on the brink of irreparable loss. Our history is difficult to access, and the materials that hold it – newspapers, magazines, etc. – also fall into ruin. Our mission is to prevent the loss of their context by digitising the materials and preserving them forever. This is one-half of our job.

We then facilitate access to the context we’ve captured, building products and solutions that facilitate the production of in-depth knowledge work. For example, our work helps journalists add more depth to their reporting, helps academics produce better research, helps economics understand trends better, etc.

We’re preserving and safeguarding Nigeria’s history and knowledge. It’s critical for our sense of identity and essential to secure our legacy for the future. The belief that an entity is only as conscious as a knowledge of itself keeps us going. Knowledge is rooted in context. If we have no context of ourselves, then what are we?
